I can see life is getting the better of you — congrats to Gozer on the addition. Looking forward to one myself in the fall.
So I’ve been up to a few neat things of late. I finished my long dreamed of project to make my electrical panel smart, I won’t get into here — it’s on my blog: http://www.kazolar.com/?p=221. Suffice it to say, the power bill is now lower for once thanks to one of my harebrained projects.
I’ll phrase the e-mail like the show — what I’m geeking out now — my 3d printer — MakerGear M2, not be confused with the evil Makerbot, makergear is all open source, and has fantastic customer support, and you get awesome results if you put in the time to tune it right. I’ve printed some cool things, a couple of transparent lampshades, some medicine cabinet shelves, a few action figures for kids of friends. Once you do put in the time to figure things out, it’s basically set and and leave the room for A LONG TIME. Unless it’s something small and simple, most prints are either an overnight job, or start in the morning and have it done when I get home from work. And watching it print although is fascinating, is much like watching paint dry. My longest single print so far has been a touch over 30 hours. One lampshade was a long series of 7-9 hour prints totaling in over 80 hours. So it’s not fast, but think this way — upload to it a model, start it up before going to bed, get up in the morning and it’s done.
We’ve made our Patreon perks even better by lowering the level to get them.
